Privacy Policy

The short version

The text you paste or upload for comparison is processed entirely within your own browser. It is never transmitted to us, never stored, and never logged. We cannot see it, because it never reaches us.

What we do not collect

  • The text you paste into either comparison pane
  • The contents of files you select for comparison
  • The results of your comparisons
  • Your name, email address or any account details — there are no accounts

The comparison algorithm runs as JavaScript on your device. Files are read using the browser's FileReader interface, which reads from your local disk without uploading. You can verify this by opening your browser's developer tools, switching to the Network tab, and running a comparison — no request carrying your text will appear.

What we do collect

We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage. This collects:

  • Pages visited and time spent on them
  • Approximate location, derived from IP address at country or region level
  • Device type, browser and operating system
  • Referring website
  • Interaction events — that a comparison was run, which view mode and granularity were used, whether a file was uploaded and its extension, and an approximate size band of the input

Interaction events never include your text content. We record that a comparison happened and roughly how large it was, never what was compared. Size is recorded as a band such as "under 1 KB" rather than an exact figure.

Cookies

Necessary storage. Your dark mode preference is stored in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device and is not used for tracking.

Analytics cookies. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish returning visitors and measure sessions. You can block these with a browser setting or an ad blocker without affecting the tool, which works fully regardless.

Third-party advertising

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this and other sites. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.

You can also opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.

Advertising scripts run on the page but have no access to the contents of the comparison panes.

Your rights under GDPR

If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request erasure of your data
  • Object to processing, including for analytics
  • Request a portable copy of your data
  • Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority

In practice we hold no data that identifies you. Analytics data is aggregated and pseudonymised. To exercise any of these rights, use the contact page.

Your rights under CCPA

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To make a request, use the contact page.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Data retention

We retain no comparison data, because none is ever collected. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' default retention period.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated. If the change is material — in particular if the tool ever stopped processing text locally — it would be stated prominently on the homepage, not buried here.
